Khus & Vetiver — The Great Uncoiler

Vetiver — called Khus in Hindi — is the root of a tall grass native to India. In Ayurvedic medicine, it has been used for thousands of years as a nervine tonic: something that calms and restores the nervous system. Modern research has confirmed what Ayurveda knew: vetiver contains sesquiterpenes that demonstrably reduce anxiety and cortisol levels when inhaled.

The scent itself is extraordinary — cool, dark, earthy, and slightly smoky, with an almost aquatic quality that calls to mind deep soil, still water, and the smell of earth after heavy rain. It is a completely unique olfactory experience that most people, the first time they encounter it, cannot name or categorize. It simply feels like relief.

This is the agarbatti for the end of a difficult day. For moments when the mind is still running at pace and needs to be invited — gently and firmly — to stop. Light one stick, sit quietly, and let Khus do what centuries of human use have confirmed it does: dissolve tension without sedating, calm without numbing.
